On Saturday February 7th, SUNY Adirondack hosted 43 students from 6 local schools (St. Mary’s-St Alphonsus, Corinth, Saratoga Maple Avenue, Schuylerville, Augustine Classical Academy and Greenwich) who participated in 23rd annual Tri County Mathcounts competition. Mathcounts is a nationwide, extracurricular mathematics enrichment program for students in the 6th through the 8th grades. The competition consists of individual and team written tests culminating in a series of one on one contests to determine the overall individual winner. The top three teams and two additional individuals will advance to the state competition at RPI with an opportunity to advance to the national Mathcounts competition. The local event is sponsored by the Capital District Chapter of the National Society of Professional Engineers and in addition to their members the competition utilizes volunteers from the local chapter of the GE Volunteers and the Adirondack Branch of the American Association of University Women. The first place team was St. Mary’s-St. Alphonsus in Glens Falls, the second place team was Maple Avenue School in Saratoga and the team from Greenwich finished in third place. Max Su from Maple Avenue School in Saratoga was the top individual followed by Evan Powell from St. Mary’s-St. Alphonsus and Elizabeth Oxaal from Augustine Classical Academy
